How can I make my pointsettia live bloom again next year?

Every year I buy pointsettias from the store because I love their beautiful colors, but they never live. I keep the dirt moist (like directed) and in a fairly bright spot. I've had mine about a month, and most of the green leaves have fallen off. I know it is possible to keep it struggling throughout the year, but I want to make it bloom again next year. Any tips would be great!
